💎 WebMentions for Gemini

This section is a hub is for my thoughts on designing a Webmention-esque protocol for Gemini/Titan, and its compatibility with existing the existing Webmention protocol.

Webmention has been designed to allow conversations to take place across sites without relying on a single central point. It's vaguely similar to pingbacks that existed about a decade ago, but supports much richer interaction (likes, replies, bookmarks, etc).

Webmentions for Gemini

Implementation of a similar protocol for Gemini is possible with the existing standards and tools at our disposal. This section of the capsule serves as a hub for my efforts to implement such a system, along with its documentation.

Goals

The main goals of this project will be:

• Gemini-first specification, that works similar to Webmentions.
• Compatibility with HTTP Webmentions (implemented via proxy).

High-Level Thoughts

These are my initial thoughts.

• Implemented mainly with Titan.
• Gemini publishing software will need to make Titan requests to send the mentions.
• We need a way to identify mention endpoints in Gemtext AND HTTP.
